Worldwide Visa Bureau » Passport Information
If you wish to travel abroad you must have a valid passport. Applying or renewing a passport can take time, so it is advisable to apply well before you travel.
You can call the Identity and Passport Service on 0870 521 0410, 24 hours a day.
Some countries require that your passport remain valid for a minimum period beyond your expected date of departure from the country. In most cases, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months. It is best to ensure that your passport is in good condition and valid for at least 6 months at the date of your return.
You can learn more from the Consulate or Embassy of the country you are travelling to.
Outside the UK, you can get advice and help from the nearest British Embassy, High Commission or Consulate. Their staff can issue standard replacement passports if yours is lost or stolen.
The UK Passport Service recommends allowing at least 4 weeks for the renewal of a passport whilst overseas. If your passport is lost or stolen, please report it to the nearest British Embassy, High Commission or Consulate as soon as possible.
If you plan to travel outside the United Kingdom, you will need a valid passport, and you may need a visa to enter the country you are travelling to.
To find out if you need a visa, contact the Consulate or Embassy of the country you plan to travel to.
